WWII British & Canadian Conical 1942

World War II British Conicals

WORLD WAR II saw the continued use and further refinement of their ubiquitous Conical tent. Used throughout the world in every environment the walled conical served the British Empire gloriously. Our example is replicated from an original that arrived in our shop for us to perform our detective work and, in some cases, to backwards engineer changes made during its lifetime. That tent was constructed in Canada and was dated “1942”. It appears, from photographs, etc., most U.K. examples differed very little from that particular tent. The design is a good one to maximize space on the ground while limiting the baggage burden while traveling. The walls add greatly to the livability of the tent when pitched. Roof vents exhaust most of the heat gained leaving the inner tent much more comfortable on a sun filled day. Roll up the walls on a stifling day for a complete air exchange. We have also built this tent in white fabric to replicate earlier British Bells in use during the beginning of the 20th century.
